How I Organize My Colored Pencils

Hello! I recently made a YouTube Short showing my process for organizing my colored pencils by creating swatches in my sketchbook and labeling them with the color names. It was a lot of work for sure, but it was all worth it. It has already helped me so much in the following areas:

  1. Organizing my colored pencil collection in their storage drawer.

  2. Knowing which colors I already have and don’t have, as well as which colors I might need to restock.

  3. Finding the correct color to use for my drawing since it is sometimes difficult to tell what the actual color will look like from the outside of the pencil.

After the video, I received requests to create a template for people to use to organize their own colored pencil collection, so I created free templates for you to download. The download contains:

  • A blank template so you can organize your colored pencils in a way that makes sense to you.

  • Brand-specific templates with prefilled colors for Prismacolor Premier, Faber-Castell Polychromos, and Caran d’Ache.

For each brand, there are blank spaces for any colors that I may have missed or colors that might be added in the future.
